Consultation and X-ray Costs
We are unable to provide estimates for treatment over the phone due to the individual nature of every ones complaint, and therefore treatment. The general costs for consultations are:
Initial consultation fee is $132.
If the consultation is medical based you will be able to claim $64.30 back through Medicare.
If the consultation is dentally based you will be able to claim through your ancillary private health insurance.
OPG x-ray is $122.00
Of this you may attract up to $40.30 in Medicare rebate (even if the consultation is dentally based).
General Treatment Estimates
All out of pocket expenses for Medicare consultations or in house Medicare procedures contribute to the Medicare Safety Net. Once the threshold is reached you will receive 80% rebate for all consultations or in house Medicare procedures.
At the first consultation your individual situation will be assessed and an itemised estimate specific for you will be provided by the friendly reception staff at the front desk.
Our front-desk staff are trained to answer all your questions with regards to your estimate, payments, and ways available for you to claim rebates through Medicare, Enhanced Primary Care, Medicare Safety Net, Private Health Insurance (Hospital and Ancillary), and the Net Medical Expenses Taxation Offset.
If you are not sure what the individual ancillary health providers cover in terms of specialist oral surgery (tooth extractions, wisdom teeth, dental implants etc), click here.
When to pay
Consultation fees are payable on the day. We have EFTPOS and credit card facilities (for Mastercard and Visa only, but not Diners or American Express). We do not accept personal cheques but will accept bank cheques. Fees for surgical procedures are payable prior to surgery.
Most follow-up reviews which occur after the initial course of treatment (other than for suture removal) will be bulk billed. If an additional review appointment is required prior to surgery this too will usually also be bulk billed. This arrangement can be confirmed at the time of making the review appointment.
Specialists vs general dentistry
Consultations, dental x-rays, and many procedures conducted by Oral & Maxillofacial surgeons are able to be reimbursed through Medicare.
Medicare does not cover general dentistry procedures, especially where performed by general dentists (especially consultations and dental x-rays).
Make sure your specialist practitioner has medicare priveleges so that you are not missing out on potential medicare rebates.
