Specialist Anaesthetist and Intensivist

Dr Brett McFadyen graduated from the University of New South Wales (MB BS & B.Med.Sci) in 1991.

Currently Brett works part-time with the John Hunter Hospital as a part-time  staff specialist (in both Anaesthesia & Intensive Care Medicine).

 

Brett also has specialist VMO status with all regional private hospitals, with his major appointments held through Lake Macquarie Private, Warners Bay Private and Newcastle Private Hospitals.

Completing intern studies at John Hunter Hospital, Brett progressed to specialist (combined) Intensive Care Medicine & Anæsthesiology training, completing first his Fellowship of the Joint Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine in 2000 (FJFICM) quickly followed by graduation as a specialist anaesthetist in 2001 as a Fellow of the Australian & New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA). Subsequently Brett studied for his Post Graduate Diploma in PeriOperative and Critical-Care Echo Cardiography (Post.Grad.Dip.Echo) at the University of Melbourne (2004).

Specialist general anaesthesia has many different styles, and anaesthetic drugs & techniques vary according to the type of surgery performed. Working with maxillofacial surgeons for many years creates an operative environment that maximally enhances the hospital experience for the patient, and maximally reduces the chance of anaesthetic complications.

Dr McFadyen has many years of experience with performing maxillofacial specific general anaesthesia for oral & maxillofacial patients, and provides a fortnightly operating list with Ocean Surgical.
